The Challenge:
Create a campaign that positions one of the following brands, Please note that you may either do a generic campaign for the brand, or for one or more of the product categories.

So I chose Pratley Putty and my message was that 'Pratley Putty can fix everything', the concept I used to convey this was by showing certain things Pratley can't fix such as misspelled tattoo, a journalist getting fired for an ambiguous headline and lastly a manly athletic father with a ballerina of a son. Basically by saying "Some things Pratley can't fix" I'm implying that they can fix everything else.

Sheep Down Premium Ska-Benga

So my girlfriend's brother is in this ska band called Sheep Down and he also happens to work at Vega where I study. So the other day he asks me if I can design them a t-shirt by the next day, and this was 2 days before my assignment deadline so I was pretty swamped but told him I would try if I had time and we talked about some ideas along a song called Russian Song (I think). Later as I was driving home I had a rad idea to do a vodka label so I pretty much rushed through my assignment and spent 2 hours doing this. We talked about the beer and sickle idea so I was super stoked when I came up with the beer/funnel idea!

They were all pretty stoked on it, changed vodka to ska-benga and that's about it! The tees will be available 1st April (I'm guessing at Splashy!). Hopefully this will allow me to do some more stuff for them in future.

Novelty Cook Book Assignment

So our last assignment was to make a novelty cook book, basically we had to come up with 3 concepts for 3 different markets. I had cook book for zomibes, cook book about computers for jocks and cook book for straightedge kids.I figured I would have the most fun with the jock one so that's the one I went with. Basically it had to be a cover, an optional contents page and 3 dps of our favourite South African recipes. So yeah, I went with a whole lot of puns, Megabyte (meatballs), Computer Chips (oven chips) and RAM (lamb potjie). The dimenisions are 200mm x 200mm for each page and it was all done in Indesign Cs3, Illustrator Cs4 and Photoshop Cs4. Looked really nice once it had been printed and mounted, definitely my favourite part of the whole process.

We also had to mock them up in a book which was fun photoshopping it in to the photo.

I didn't actually have time to cook all the meals and photograph them myself so the pics of the meals were all sourced from google images (high res though..) here's the reference:

Jiggered Illustration

So I did this illustration for a Grahamstown based magazine called Jiggered

Jiggered is an awkward squint at cultural hangovers. It is a journal that focuses on a wide range of issues viewed through an aesthetic lens. It is a platform for the imagination, for taking risks and challenging ideas.

but yeah, the article was about different generations so we've got Marilyn, Beatle, Blank, Madonna, Cobain.
Can't see the detail but meh...

Markets of Warwick Assignment

So for our first brief this year we had an actual client which was pretty cool. The client was Asiye eTafuleni which literally means 'bring it to the table' which actually means 'let's discuss' and basically the company represents the Markets of Warwick in negotiating with the city and promoting tourism in the area. The Markets of Warwick is basically a collection of street vendors located around the central transportation hub of Durban city. They came to us to get a logo for the overall Markets of Warwick and they also wanted derivative logos that represented each of the individual markets. So as you can I’ve used the overall market logo and placed icons that represent each individual market within her arms. We also had to make a brochure for the markets ith some information they provided about each market and so on. So yeah, this is what I came up with, it's a tri-fold brochure and the top image is the outside and the bottom one is the inside. Oh, and basically they're gonna choose one and use it so yeah that would be cool.

Singing For Soup Poster

So my friend asked me to design a poster for a gig he was organising for a soup kitchen, he had the idea of a Campbell soup can and basically told me to run with that. This is what I came up with, wanted to do it in my own style instead of trying to directly rip Warhol. The whole colour scheme looks like Malboro cigarettes, especially the cigarette filter looking background, hopefully smokers will be attracted to it... The bands I've included there were purely to show different font sizes and such and I have no idea why those were the only band names that came into my head...

Lately I've just been buying plain t-shirts from Mr. Price and wanting to screen simple 1 colour designs of just words or whatever on them. I got keen to do this one and literally did it in 10mins, quickly wrote the words with one of the illustrator artistic brushes and then just went over everything with my tablet to vary the strokes and add the mess. Gonna try screen it tomorrow. Oh, and these are things I like. haha

FTTW Album Launch Flyer (unofficial)

Had a this rad idea to do this flyer so I looked around to see what gigs were coming up and decided to use the Fire Through the Window album launch gig. It is a long flyer, yeah. Dunno which I prefere, the bright colours or the desaturated ones. With some masking I could probably print this all with one screen exposure, but would be a mission with all the colours.

So I figured because most (not all) of the designs on Springleap are pretty crap, I'd try entering the competitions every now and then and hopefully have a chance of winning. So yeah, I lucked out and the theme coming up is The Living Dead. So this is what I threw together, a bit different from my regular stuff. But yeah, came out rad.

Nude Stencil 4

So here's the 4th nude stencil, originally I'd planned to do 4 (2 years ago) so I guess it's cool that I finally finished!
I had a couple problems with this one. My paint supply is running pretty low so I'm pretty strapped for colours and stuff to choose from. The first spray I did a couple days ago came out siff because of the crap paint. Today I tried some different colours and they were also pretty crap, so I had to edit the photo a bit to fix it up. Looking to order some nice Montana paint right now.
